Musical instruments in Turkish design art between 12th and 15th centuries

SUMMARY This study, which is entitled as: "Musical instruments in Turkish design art between 12th and 15th centuries", intends to gain concrete information about the progress of Turkish music and instruments through the years that comprise our subject. In the first part of this study, progress years of Turkish Music and the instruments that are used, were spoken generally. In the second part, Turkish miniature, metal, tile and relief arts are taking part. In our catalogue which builds the third part, the examples of Turkish miniature, metal, tile and relief arts are shown by time order. In total of the 50 works which are included in our catalogue, there are 99 musical instruments in total. 30 of these are rhythms, 18 of these are winds and 51 of these are strings. The names and numbers of 22 types of instruments are: 16 ceng, 14 def, 7 lavta, 7 flageolets, 7 nefir, 6 bendir, 6 burgu, 6 ouds, 4 sahrud, 4 tanbura, 3 arm drums, 3 rebab, 3 rings, 2 dombra, 2 kos, 2 nakkare, 2 rred flutes, 1 davulbaz, 1 pipe, 1 kurenay, 1 morin huur and 1 zurna. There are no miniatures that belong to 12th century. One of the works, belonging to this century is an Artukian mirror and the other one is an ivory bas-relief which belongs to the Fatimies. In the mirror, an oud and a zurna are seen and in the relief 3 lavtas, an oud and a zurna are seen. In the 12 miniatures, belonging to 13th century, there are 35 instruments. The types and numbers of these instruments are: 6 burgus, 1 ceng, 3 defs, 3 flageolets, 2 nefirs, 2 ouds, 3 arm drums, 3 rings, 2 dombras, 2 kos, 3 nakkares, 1 davulbaz and 1 pipe. İn a relief that belongs this period we can see an oud, a ceng in a ceramic and a lavta in a tile, 3 ouds, a lavta, a bendir and a ceng in 6 metal works. 3 miniatures that belong to 14th century ve recognize 12 cengs, 1 1 defs, 2 reed flutes, 4 sahruds, 4 tanburas, 3 bendirs, 3 flageolets, 1 lavta, 1 kurenay and 1 murin huur. Although the manuscript miniatures are delivered all over the world, researching and making this original documents more reachable; will strengthen our culturel and artistic identitiy.
