Physical fitness examination of the students aged between 12-17 years who engage in sports and do not engage in sports

Physical fitness is a person's ability to maintain successfully muscular work. Physical activity generated by the skeletal muscles and leads to energy consumption over baseline daily physical activity. Assessing the level of physical fitness in children and adolescents at an early age allows for acquiring of personal health. For this reason, person's physical fitness, physical activity and lifelong exercise habits are important. The aim of this study is to evaluate physical activity and physical fitness of students aged between 12-17 years who regularly engage in sports for boys and girls. Regularly exercising 130 (45 female 85 male) and who do not exercise regularly but also participating in physical education classes only 141 (76 female and 65 male) students participated in the study. When the students health-related and performance-related physical fitness condition evaluating, we measure height, weight, body mass index, skeletal muscle weight and skeletal muscle percentage, body fat weight, body fat percentage and waist-hip ratio measurements and correlated with Eurofit tests. Result of the health-related physical fitness measurements of 12-13 years of age group athlete girls flexibility, muscular strength, muscular endurance and cardiovascular endurance test values significantly higher than who do not engage in sports. Muscular strength and muscular endurance tests in 14-15 years old girls, muscular strength, muscular endurance and cardiovascular endurance test results in aged 16-17 of girls who engage in sports have been shown significantly higher values who do not engage in sports. Body composition measurements in the 12-13 age athletes girls height, body weight, skeletal muscle mass and skeletal muscle percentage values, girls between 14-15 years engaged in sports body fat percentage values, girls between 16-17 years engaged in sports body fat mass, body fat percentage and skeletal muscle percentage values significant difference was found than girls who do not engage in sports. Boys in all age groups engaged in sports muscular strength, muscular endurance and cardiovascular endurance (14-15 years excluded) tests significantly more successful results than boys who do not engage in sports. However, there were not significantly different between boys who engage in sports and do not engage in sports in flexibility. Body composition measurements of boys in aged 12-13 who engaged in sports skeletal muscle mass, body fat percentage and body muscle percentage values, boys aged between 14-15 years who engaged in sports body muscle percentage values found significantly different from who do not engage in sports. In body composition values, there is no significant difference between boys in aged 16-17 who engage in sports and do not engage in sports. At all ages of girls engaging in sports, performance measurement results (agility, speed and balance tests) are significantly more successful and its associated with physical fitness. The coordination test of in all ages found no significant difference between the groups who engaging in sports and not engages in sports. Boys in all age groups significantly more successful results in balance (16-17 years excluded), speed, coordination and agility tests between who engage in sports and do not engage in sports. An evaluation of physical activity between the ages 12-13 and 16-17 both girls and boys who engaged in sports the number of steps were found significantly higher. However, the ages of 14-15 was not a significant difference number of steps between engaging in sports and do not engaging sports both girls and boys. All data suggests that obtained from 12 - 17 years old girls and boys who engaging in sports, performance associated with health-related physical fitness status level is good than their sedentary peers. In conclusion, can be said the regular sport has a positive effect on the level of physical fitness both sexes. Keywords: Physical fitness, physical activity, body composition, Eurofit.
