Nutritional status of children aged 12-18 months, the families to determine their level of knowledge about nutrition and its relationship with haematological-biochemical values

From birth until the end of two years of age are the fastest period of growth and development, healthy start to life for the most critical period. After two years of this period of growth retardation is very difficult to fix. Therefore, all health care staff, and infant and young child nutrition is an important issue to be dealt with by pediatricians. In our study, the level of knowledge about nutrition of families with children aged 12-18 months, complete blood count, serum iron, iron binding capacity, ferritin, folic acid, vitamin B 12, vitamin A, vitamin E, vitamin D, we aimed to investigate the relationship between the levels of zinc and copper. Celal Bayar University, Medical Faculty Hospital Pediatrics Clinic Hafsa Sultan admitted to any health problems, ranging from 207 children aged 12-18 months were enrolled. A questionnaire was applied to learn the nutritional status of children for families. Children in our study 34% (n:71) were female, 66% (n:136) were male. Children and 4.8% (n:11) preterm delivery. 15% of patients (n = 31) were lower than normal birth weight (<2500 g). Ferritin in children with low birth weight, iron, vitamin B 12 and folic acid levels were lower. Maternal age, parental education level, number of children, mother's occupation, socioeconomic status, cultural factors in the development of infant feeding and shown to be effective. Nutritional deficiency of zinc were found in children of families that are not in the training of health personnel. Folic acid and vitamin A in children that are not followed by the establishment of health impairment was detected. In conclusion the recommended amount of nutrients babies timely appropriate calories, protein, vitamin and mineral content of foods containing the development and growth of the baby's nutrition is very important in terms of the long-term health. Babies should be fed a balanced and adequate and proper nutrition as well as obtain their behavior. So it is very important that all mothers trained in infant nutrition.
