Government crises in Turkey from 12 March to 12 September and its effects on Turkish democracy (1971-1980)

As in the vast majority of contemporary states, in the Republic of Turkey, the executive branch has the governments established under the roof of the National Assembly. Since the establishment of the Republic, the politic institution in the Turkish state organization has been targeted as a democracy-based multi-party life and has been shaped along this line. Although multi-party political life has been interrupted from time to time, this model has not been abandoned. In some periods, non-political institutions have intervened in political life. For this reason, extraordinary periods have taken place in Turkish politics. In some periods, political crises and government crises have also observed One of these periods is the period between the "Military Memorandum of March 12, 1971 and the Military Coup of September 12, 1980".Because of the reasons the country is the failure to terminate the anarchic and chaotic, environment of the economic conditions to worsen with each passing day, and political instability , On March 12, 1971; the TAF(TSK) senior command issued a memorandum indicating the current government should be replaced and a non-partisan government should be formed that will appeal to the whole society, or else it would take over the administration. Thereupon, a new era has begun in Turkish politics, which has different from democratic practices. During this period, 4 non-partisan governments have formed. However, this model has not successful. Although the governments that have been established later have been tried to be established with more democratic methods, the government crises could not be ended due to the current political structure and the general situation of the country. During this period of about 10 years, 11 unstable governments have been formed due to government crises. Problems arising from the parliamentary system, problems arising from ideological separation, problems arising from domestic and foreign politics, and the interventions of non-democratic elements in politics have been seen in the emergence of government crises. The government crises have been experienced during this period had some effects on Turkish democracy that will last for many years and will reach to the present day.
