Abstract (EN)
This research aims to introduce the views of the teachers and students as for the level of goal realization of the `Modern Turkey and World History? lesson dealing with the developments in the world and Turkey from the beginning of the 20th century till now, taught at the 12th form, and in the framework of these views to define the disadvantages of the curriculum, to provide a curriculum with new extensions and to contribute to the effectiveness of the lesson.This paper which conciders the situation with the lesson of the `Modern Turkey and World History? was written in accordance with the descriptive research method. Descriptive method is usually applied to define and to evaluate the situation and to define the relations among the events. It searches for the answers to the questions such as what the situation is, which way we should go. The reason of applying of the descriptive method in this paper is to introduce the present conditions, to define the problem, to outline the situation and to conduct the research without violating the natural conditions.The frame of the report consists of the 12th grade students studying at the high schools in the district of Ankara and the teachers of the students. The sampling part of the report consists of 303 students of the 12th grade studying at Etimesgut Lisesi, Aktepe Lisesi, Fatih Sultan Mehmet Lisesi, Kalaba Lisesi, Keçiören Lisesi, İbni Sina Lisesi, Sincan Süleyman Demirel Anadolu Lisesi, Sincan Fatih Anadolu Lisesi situated in the district of Ankara and 38 teachers of the `Modern Turkey and World History? lesson.The data collection consists of three parts conducted separately for the teachers and the students. The questionnaire and interviewing was applied in accordance with the subject and the goal. In the first part questions to determine the personal data of the teachers and students are introduced. The second part is a 26-item questionnaire which aims at determining the teachers? and students? attitudes on the matter of the goal realization of the `Modern Turkey and World History? lesson. Five-stepped Likert-type scale was used in this section and the responses are scaled between 1,00 and 5,00. In the third part an interviewing form to determine the level of the attained goals put in the curriculum is introduced.The data analysis in this paper was conducted with a help of the computer and in the framework of the general basis of statistics. The percentage calculation of the number of students and teachers was made.According to the obtained results teachers, which evaluated positively the `Modern Turkish and World History? lesson, stated that the presence of the subjects intended to take the students? attention will be appropriate to the curriculum. In spite of this it was determined that the teachers? and the students? attitudes on the matter of the level of goal realization of the `Modern Turkey and World History? lesson were different.The problems such as the programme of the history lesson, history lesson books, the shortage of lesson hours, the methods and techniques applied during the lessons, the problems connected with the insufficiency of the lesson material, attendance problems on the part of both teachers and students were determined.
