Abstract (EN)
Population registers constitute an important source for analyzing the social, cultural and economic structure of states. In the Ottoman Empire, the first census that can be considered modern was carried out in 1830-1831. Population registers, which emerged as a natural product of this census, are of great importance in historical research. Population registers provide rich information about the demographic, economic and sociological structure of the period they were kept. Many subjects such as the administrative structure of the region, the names of the settlements, the names and nicknames of the persons recorded, their ages, the number of male population, birth and death dates, migration events, and population movements can be learned through the registers. Religion also shapes the values of the individual and society. The Ottoman Empire was a state where religious and political structures were intertwined and Islam played an important role in state administration. The Ottoman state structure was shaped by Islamic law (sharia) and traditional state administration rules. These relations were shaped in the Ottoman social structure and state administration. Religion was accepted as a part of state administration and this understanding was one of the basic characteristics of the Ottoman Empire for centuries. When we look at the professions in the neighborhood and village records in the Çankırı District registry numbered 1810, we see that the most frequently practiced professions were Hafiz, Imam and Mullah. This was not only a social value judgment for the Ottoman political power in the social life of the Ottoman State, but also an important means of legitimacy and symbol of power from the very beginning. Because the Ottoman State was in a state-religion union from the very beginning. They were also respected as spiritual leaders. The population book of Çankırı district numbered 1810 includes the statistics of the records of the year 1246. The names of the neighborhoods and villages in Ankara Çankırı, the names of the heads of households, the titles indicating the status and nicknames of the individuals, kinship relations, professions, ages, birth and death ages of male children were also revealed in the studies. No information was reached on the non-Muslim population in the book. Therefore, there is no information on taxation. There is no information on physical characteristics.
