Abstract (EN)

The researches which indicate how the problematic or pathological internet use effects the functional states of adults and prevents the psycho-social development, the academic achievement and the social skills of adolescents are uprising. One of the main reasons of problematic internet use in adolescence may be the insufficent communication skills leading them into this alternative environment which finally offers the social environment they need to construct. In this study, it is aimed to indicate the extension of the problem by examining the correlation between the internet use, self compassion and the communication skills. There are 62 (% 38.8) female ve 98 (%61.2) male, 160 participants, between the ages of 13-18 in the research conducted. The results which are obtained shows no significant relation between the problematic internet use and communication skill scores (t158= -1,305; p>,05). On the other hand, Self Compassion Scale as an indicator of the healthy personal attitude towards self which also affects the communication with others is found negatively correlated with the problematic internet use (t158=3,205; p<,01).
