Abstract (EN)

Defining the effects of local site conditions on the damage of earthquakes has an important role to decrease the damage of further possible earthquakes. March 13, 1992 Erzincan earthquake caused serious loss of life and property. In this study, the effects of local site conditions on the damages caused by 1992 Erzincan earthquake has been investigated. Deconvolution was done on the earthquake record which was obtained from the soil surface and the new record applied to other soil profiles in order to analyze the response of the soil profiles. Soil response analysis was done by using SHAKE program. The relation between structural damage ratios and soil amplification functions and spectral acceleration values has been investigated. It was also searched that whether this relation will be strengthened or not by decreasing the shear wave velocities (to reflect the rigidity reduction effect of energy corrections). As the result of analyzing the soil responses with decreased shear wave velocities, the relation between the structural damages and soil amplification effects has been strengthened. The correlation between period dependent soil amplification values and structural damage ratios is obtained as 80%, and the relation between period dependent spectral acceleration values and structural damage ratios is obtained as 78%.
