Eulogies in the 15th century divans

15th century can be regarded as a turning point for Turkısh hıstory and literature. The state became a empire by enforcing it?s organizations in this century and meanwhile classical Ottoman Poetry became a tradition on whose rules the works were constituted. In this century kasida concept attained a new perspective with Ahmet Pasa and advanced a great deal in both the number of works and the quality of works if compared with the former term. The mostly constituted type of kasidas were eulogies in which eulogist praised the sultan and his protecters primarily with generousity, warriorship and sovereignty as their administrative and individual properties, and they tried to constitute a perfect sultan concept. While doing this they took the properties of the person they praise into consideration therefore different aspects occurred for different people. Available data indicates that eulogy is not a ordinary tradition but the portraits constituted by eulogists and historical datas overlap. Poets of the century used the elements of Arabic and Persian culture and literature and the elements of Islam skıllfully while praising the sultans. This situation which can be accounted for by both the poets education in Arabian and Persian geography. and that of Anatolias being a center of science is the most significant indicator of classical Ottoman Poetry?s being a tradition ın this centy.
