Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, the modeling and comparative results of quantum well straigth and tapered ridge waveguide semiconductor lasers have been studied. The use of optical communication systems has increased because communication systems are faster, more reliable and more successful to reduce the attenuation of data transmission. Thus, semiconductor lasers have found wide application in optical communication systems due to their compatness, high performance, reliability, power efficiency and low cost they have higher power and low cost and high performance and compactness. In this study, power output characteristics of semiconductor lasers at 1550 nm, in which attenuation is the lowest value of 0,1-0,2 dB/km, and modeling of waveguides have been investigated. Therefore, two different designs, straigth and tapered ridge waveguides, have been compared. Consequently, the characterization of the straigth and tapered waveguide semiconductor lasers, continuous wave (CW) characteristics and longitudinal mode spectra have been obtained by waveguide based semiconductor laser simulations using MATLAB.
