Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this research is to examine the role of perceived athletic competence in determining self-control and self-management levels among 16-18-year-old basketball players. Another aim of the study is to investigate the relationships between perceived athletic competence, self-control, and self-management levels and various demographic variables (gender, years of involvement in basketball, daily sports activity duration, mother's education level, father's education level, whether the player likes their branch, whether there is a licensed athlete in the family, person who takes them to practice, person they communicate with about sports, level of sports participation, academic success, number of siblings, choice of branch willingly, family support, person who meets their sports needs, weekly training days). The research is structured according to a relational survey model within this scope. The study sample consists of 174 basketball players aged 16-18 in Ardahan, with 80 females (46.0%) and 94 males (54.0%). Participants volunteered to take part in the study. The personal information form, along with the "Perceived Athletic Competence Scale," and the "Self-control and Self-management Scale" were administered to the athletes. Data normality was assessed using skewness and kurtosis values. The reliability of the scales was evaluated through Cronbach's alpha coefficients. Descriptive statistics such as frequency and percentage analyses were used to determine the demographic characteristics of the participants. To assess the levels of self-control, self-management, and perceived athletic competence, mean scores and standard deviations were calculated. Independent t-tests and one-way ANOVA were used for data analysis. Post-hoc Tukey tests identified which groups showed significant differences. The relationships between self-control, self-management, and perceived athletic competence were examined using Pearson correlation analysis. Multiple linear regression analysis was conducted to determine whether self-control and self-management scores could predict perceived athletic competence. The significance levels were set at p=.05 and p=.01. Data analysis was performed using IBM SPSS Statistics 23.0 software.
