Abstract (EN)

Turkish traditional art tile and ceramic art which started with Islamic architecture and started to develop by including the daily usage ceramics became a milestone by reaching its peak point in the 16th century. In this period, Iznik had become a production centre in traditional art tile and ceramic field. The fact that Iznik traditional art tile is so standing out and being unique is based on the artistic approach of the period and the formation of relationships of technique, form, texture and composition used finically and perfectly.It is seen that the forms of the 16th century Iznik period ceramic utensils formed in order meet several functions are categorized in four different ways in terms of the usage area. My purpose is to investigate ?Food and Service Utensils (Plates, Shallow frying-plates, Trays, Bowls-Uskure and Tazzas)? which are not worked on before within this classification. Food and service utensils are described respectively in terms of form one by one by classifying on their history, form, colour, texture and composition properties.When food and service utensils are investigated in terms of the relation of form and composition, several composition forms (free, symmetrical, from one origin and etc.) are used, functionality is prioritised ad form change is performed by considering functionality according to the usage area. When designing the compositions, they were formed by abiding the ornamentation elements and design disciplines. Moreover, forms, motifs and colours from the elements comprising the composition are formed in accordance with the artistic approach and taste of that period.In the research made, present samples and several resources of Iznik period food and service in museums and collections are utilized and investigated. It is aimed to set a document by setting light to ongoing traditional art tile and ceramic art and our next generations with the research made within the content of this thesis subject.Keywords: Iznik, Traditional Art Tile Food Utensils, Ceramic, Form, Motif
