Examination and Classification of the "Rumi motif" in the Surebaşı Tezyinat of the Karahisari Mushafi Written in the 16. Century"

Many manuscripts have survived until today. Some are very rare examples of the art of decoration among them and many works have not been selected as subjects to any researches yet. The masterpiece of 16th century, the Karahisari holy Koran, is among those works of art that are thought to be the greatest contribution to the art of gilding decoration by us. In our study, the objective was to bring at least some of the very rich decorations of the Karahisari Koran to light. We tried to report on the notion of design or pattern, colours and exactness in the works from the classical era done in Ottoman Era's 16th century manuscript painting house in the court. Unique designs are created as a result of this research. First of all we have reached to the exact copy of the Karahisari Koran. As a result, it has become possible to work on the artefact. With a semi-professional camera, verse head decorations of the Koran were photographed and uploaded; after adjustments in perspective and colors digitally, they were printed for drawing analyses that were carried out. We have tried to give basic information on Ahmed Karahisari and the Koran decoration in the first part of this work; and on Turkish decoration motif of rumi in the second. Also in the second part of this work the design and pattern analyses covering Ahmed Karahisari's holy Koran's verse heads decorated with rumi as well. The tables prepared are to be both consulted for this study and the process related, and also to function as a guide or a pioneer for other similar works in the future.
