Abstract (EN)

In 1851, In the Ottoman Empire Eytam Chest was founded for the protection of the properties of the Orphans, through the inheritence. In later years It is seen that Eytam Assemblies and Eytam Chests were established and organised depending Eytam directory in 1880s. Eytam Regulation with the date 1851 was practised till 1906 and in the same year a new regulation wa accepted. In time same more regulations were done in it. Eytam Chests had important duties both to protect orphans properties and to regulate them. Money in the chest are used by giving to individuals with certain conditions.In the period we examiuned between the years 1920-1926 136 people borrowed Money from Çanakkale Eytam Chest and Idan. Turks mostly borrowed but Armenians and Jews also borrowed. When looked at the occupational structure of those who borrowed from the chest,housewives are more than the others civil cervants, tradesman and soldiers followed them orderly.We learn the names of the streets or areas which exist in the years 1920-1926 in Çanakkale from the transcription of the note book, belong to Eytam Chest. Cami-i Kebir, Arslanca, Çınarlık, Hamidiye, Hastahane Bayırı, Harmanlık, Çay, Aziziye, Yalı, Jews, Greek and Armenian areas are some of them. They do not exist today.Eytam Administration and the Chest is damaged in the years of occupation of Anatolia after the First World War. Eytam Chest in Istanbul was closed because it couldn?t work as usual. The others in Anatolia kept their existance till 1926. After this date they were transferred to Bank Eramil.Key words: Eytam, Idan, Çanakkale
