Of August 17 and 12 November 1999 earthquake Gölyaka (Düzce) adhere to county elementary school students by perception of interconnections

Since the historical times there were a lot of earthquakes through the North Anatolia Fault Zone, which caused a big loss of human life and property. While these eartquakes had influenced on city centers, also they had damaged rural areas. In Turkey, one of the biggest earthqake has experienced in 17 August 1999, at 03.02 hour a.m., centered in İzmit and the other was also centered in İzmit in 12 November 1999, at 18:58 p.m. In these disasters more than 18000 people died and thousands of them injured in İzmit, Adapazarı, Yalova, Bolu and Düzce cities and there were severe damages in these cities. Our research area named Gölyaka, a town of Düzce is one of the places which was severly affected from these earthquakes. In this city, 106 people died, 400 people injured and 70% of the building collapsed or damaged. If we talk about villages of Gölyaka town; Değirmentepe, Hacı Süleymanbey and Cevizlik district in Hamamüstü damaged at most. In these study, characteristics of these eartquakes are examined at first and than the perception and knowledge levels of the students about earhthquakes were determined through questionnaires and content analyse method.Research; introduction, theoretical explanations, methods, findings and omments, conclusions and recommendations are to be made up of eight chapters.In this study, descriptive research and the ?purposefully sample? model was used. five schools were selected for this aim,while two of them are located in villages three of them are in towns. Seventh and eight grades students of these schools were subjected to the questionnaires.?Individualistic Information Form? which was developed by researcher was used as data collection tool in this study. Also, the questionnaire named ?Earthquake and Awareness About Eathquake? which was consisted of 15 items, developed by researcher used in this study. ?Interview Form? which was developed by researcher was used in this study as well.. The data gathered through Individualistic Information Form have been analysed with frequences and percentages. Written data gathered through interview form and questionnaries have been anaysed by content analyse and percentages ; and the frequencies of the words were computed.Key Words: North Anatolian Fault Zone earthquake, earthquake?s destructive effect, primary student?s earhtquake perception.
