Şerif Nehci who lived XVII. century the life, works and literary personalty and criticised text of his Divan

The subject of our thesis is the life, works and literary personality of Şerif Nehci who lived in XVEL century and criticised text of his Divan. There is limited information about Nehci in resources. According to information in resources; the real name of Nehci is Mustafa. Whereas different claims exist about his birth place, the poet's birth date is also uncertain. It is claimed in resources that he was given the name "Şerif because he descended from the Prophet's family. Nehci died in 1715. According to the available information, the only work of Nehci is his "Divan". Copies of Divan are in Istanbul. Except for the introduction part, our thesis is composed of three parts. In the first part, taking the resources as a base, information about the life, works and literary personality of Şerif Nehci is given. While his literary personality is presented, both information in the resources and Nehci's poems were used. In this part, mostly the information which would shed light to history of literature was presented. In the second part, form, content, language and style features of Şerif Nehci's Divan were analsed. Form features were presented by the help of charts. In the content part, themes of poems in Divan were evaluated. Language and expression features of Nehci were expressed in language and style part. In the third part, four copies of Nehci's Divan were introduced and criticised text was presented. In Divan of Şerif Nehci there are 6 kaside, 1 terci-bend, 343 gazel, 42 kıt' a, 1 16 ruba' i, 42 muamma and 1 matla.Of all the verse types, Nehci is most successful in writing "gazel". We could not find "Halvetilik" or "Mevlevilik" terms in his poems as mentioned in resources. There are rarely mystic poems among his poems. Thus, it will be appropriate to say that he is a lyric poet. By conforming with the traditions of Divan literature, he dealt with such issues as "love", ''unfaithfulness of the loved" "bitterness of hearth" in his poems. He also attracts attention with his simple style familiar to daily speaking.
