The prohibitions of Ottoman woman's apparel in the 18th and 19th centuries

The period of 18th and 19th centuries has moved the property of being the term in which process of westernization was introduced. The objective of this thesis for efficiency in art was to examine the prohibitions that was hedged about intervention of women's apparel and life styles during aforementioned period. Through, it was aimed to shed light on the subject of living conditions and value that loaded for meaning of women. In this respect, women, who had lived as an active individual in the history, are identified in a passive position that was not able to presence in social life. By the effect of westernization, Ottoman female, who introduced a new order instead of the familiar one, began to hear interest whether the new was. This interest shadowed out not only by the requests that was differentiated about the subject of apparel, but also by the need for presence of woman in social life. Several bans devoted to women's apparel and life style on account of the fact that not obeying the religious rules were put in Ottoman Empire in which was formed around a paternalistic mentality. Thus, it was intented to eliminate the interest to reform by increasing the influence on women. As well as the religious faith, definite issues related with economical and sociocultural properties were known as deterministic factors. Ottoman woman, felt much pressure by the increase of the prohibitions, began to question and took a concrete step about self knowledge. An awareness was created by lialising and thus it was provided to move up the women subject as to be discussed.
