Abstract (EN)

Aim: Our aim in this study; 1-To reveals normal values of Achilles Tendon with USG in healty population over 18 years old previously have not had any orthopedic surgery, without deformity-old fracture-abnormality in the ankle area, without any systematic disease. 2- To show changes in the size of Achilles Tendon depending on variables age, sex, weight, height, right foot-left foot, smoking-not smoking, engaging in sports-sedanteries. 3-To demonstrate the relationship between anthropometric measurements and these results. Material and Method: First we recorded the infomation about volunteers as following; age, gender, smoking-non smoking, dominant foot-non dominant foot, engaging in sport-sedanteries. After we took the anthropometric measurements that include height, weight, body mass index, waist circumference, basin width, thigh circumference, total lower limb length, tibiale length, knee circumference, calf circumference, ankle circumference, foot length, foot breadth. After we measured the thickness, width, length and cross-sectional area of the tendons. Results: The average of achilles tendon width, thickness, area and length of male volunteers were significantly higher than averages of female volunteers. Tendon width, thickness, area and length showed no significant difference between right and left tendon. For sizes of achilles tendon, there was significant difference between volunteers are engaged sports and sedanteries. For sizes of achilles tendon, there was significant difference between volunteers who smoking and no-smoking. Sizes of achilles tendon in 18-29 age group were significantly lower than other age groups. Only weight and BMI which including in the anthropometric measurements were positively correlated with the achilles tendon sizes. Conclusion: Our results will create a database for the region where we live. We think the changes in tendon size depending to age, sex, sport, dominant foot and cigarette will contribute to the clinic.
