Abstract (EN)

In the study titled Weaving Manufacturing in the Second Half of the 18th Century in the Diyarbekir Province, the province of Diyarbekir an important province in the Ottoman Empire's weaving production, especially in cotton was first addressed in terms of its geographical location, the origin of its name, and a brief history of the city. The study revealed the place of the weaving artisans and related artisans groups in the city's economy as well as their production and export potential. The raw materials required by the weaving artisans, the substances used in dyeing these raw materials and how these substances were obtained, and the condition of the dye houses, the most prominent related artisans group in weaving manufacturing, were illuminated. By comparing the prices of finished goods obtained from probate inventories with the prices of weaving products, the price/value perception of weaving goods was analyzed, and a valuation was made with the widely accepted currency of the period, the Venetian gold ducat. From the Diyarbekir Şer'iyye Court Registers, the taxes imposed on artisans, the amounts and rates of taxes allocated for city expenses and other costs were revealed. The nature of the tax amount ratio allocated to the weaving artisans and their related artisans groups was found noteworthy in showing the economic power of weaving manufacturing in the province's economy. Based on this, the transition process from the province's subordination to the Treasury Directorate to the Voivodship was explained. It was determined that from the beginning of the 18th century, according to the malikâne system implemented, weaving and related service contracts subject to the Diyarbekir Voivodship were also included in sales. The study also addressed the weaving looms, the routes through which weaving products were exported, and the methods of export. In weaving manufacturing, the orducu artisans, the system of müdârebe, mükâtebe, and the system of home-based work were examined. It was determined that the Industrial Revolution, which began in the second half of the 18th century in Europe and was especially felt in weaving manufacturing, It has been discussed whether it has an impact on the weaving of the province.
