Özet (EN)

The term "population" is used to describe the people living in a specific geographical area. It is the plural of the Arabic word "nefs." Population, used as a military force, represents tax obligations and the economic strength of states. Throughout history, many states have conducted population censuses from time to time to determine the amount of power they possess. The Ottoman State occasionally constitute Tahrir registers to determine the social, economic, and military conditions of the regions it conquered. These records are among the first examples of population censuses in the Ottoman State. The first population census in the Ottoman Empire was conducted during the reign of Mahmud II after the abolition of the Janissary Corps to determine the state's military strength. In these censuses, the number of male populations living in the Ottoman State was identified. The first modern population census was conducted in 1831. The age, physical characteristics, and military status of the population recorded in the register were provided. The subject of our thesis is the register with number 5436, which records the muslim population of the Florina district in the Manastir province of the Rumeli state. As a result of examining this register, the records in the register were transcribed and evaluated. This register provides information about the number of individuals, their names, fathers' names, ages, physical characteristics, disabilities, those in the military, and the population coming to the district in the villages of the Florina district. Keywords: Population, Florina, Manastır, Population Register
