Abstract (EN)

Population is one of the biggest factors affecting the development of a society in terms of social and economic aspects. In addition, there is a close connection between the status and characteristics of the population of a state and the level of development of the country. For this reason, censuses to determine the characteristics and number of the population have been an important source of data throughout history. Population studies, the number of which has increased in different region in recent years, sheds light on many areas. These studies, which have been done and continue to be done, contain information that will contribute to the sociological and demographic structure of the Ottoman Empire as a whole. The Çerkeş District Population Register dated 1844, which constitutes the subject of study, was obtained from the Dr. Rıfkı Urga Research Center Archive within the Çankırı Municipality, and the data were transcribed and evaluated on the documents transferred to digital. As a result of the examination of the records in the register, it has been tried to present information about the the physical characteristics, disability, nicknames, ages, births, military service status and professions of the people living in Çerkeş District, its neighborhoods and villages.
