Ottoman-Russian War from the Point of View of Sir Henry Austen Layard who Served as British Ambassador in the Ottoman Empire between the years 1877 and 1880

The aim of our study titled "Ottoman-Russian War from the Point of View of Sir Henry Austen Layard who Served as British Ambassador in the Ottoman Empire between the years 1877 and 1880" is to reveal evaluation of the Ottoman Russian War of 1877-1878 which led to an extensive change in the Ottoman Empire through the lens of a diplomat. Based on his memoirs, the scope of the thesis is limited to the observations and the relevant steps taken by Sir Henry Austen Layard from the period when he was appointed as a British Ambassador to İstanbul in 1877 until the end of the war which also began during the same period. Our thesis begins with general information concerning the Ottoman-Russian relations and the Ottoman-Russian War of 1878-1878. We reveal life of Sir Henry Austen Layard who made observations about the aforementioned war under various headlines. In the part of the memoirs which is the primary part of the study, we reveal evaluation of the war from the beginning to the end from the point of view of a British ambassador. A significant source on the Ottoman diplomacy and the war process, these memoirs are transferred by us from the point of view of the writer without any intervention from English to our own language.
