Abstract (EN)
European notes written on the East in the 19th century also serve different purposes compared to previous centuries. In order to reach to the Ottoman Empire, which aroused a common curiosity, a wide observation area regarding the Ottoman Empire was formed both with the intention of colonization and exploration and with the encouragement of orientalism. When compared with the observations written (penned) by European travelers in the previous centuries in this field, the travel writings in the 19th century show that the Ottoman mahram, that is, the harem, was shed light. Instead of European male travelers telling the stories about the private or hearsay harem of Ottoman women, the writings of European women travelers provide the opportunity to convey information by witnessing the life of their fellow Ottoman women. The pens of women travelers who have been influenced and based on Orientalism and their own culture in different ways, such as Julia Pardoe, Lady Hornby and Lucy M.J Garnett, also present significant content to the reader in this direction. In terms of explaining the intimacy of Ottoman women and understanding it, looking from a woman's window gives a rich and original perspective in the field of travel books.
