Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of this study is investigate the negative effects of syphilis and leprosy in Anatolia in the 19th century within the framework of the science of history's boundaries. Especially research the extent to which the destruction caused by syphilis in Anatolia has reached is one of the most important issues. In addition, the impact of both leprosy and syphilis on people's lives is also one of the main topics of research. This case basically emerged in the form of dealing with issues such as ostracisation or isolation from society. It is easier to obtain concrete information about the isolation and ostracisation faced by patients, those who are catch disease of leprosy especially. In syphilis, both the way of contracting the disease and being one of the infectors are the major reasons for isolation or ostracisation from society. For instance, a person who has received the disease through transmission from a brothel or a prostitute can be excluded from society. Likewise, it is possible that prostitutes will be sent to isolation and exile as those who infect the disease. On the other hand, the measures taken by the Ottoman State against these two diseases researched in this study and the issues that make it difficult to take precautions were also investigated. It has also been tried to reveal the situation of the Ottoman health organization in taking precautions and being organized through the similarities and differences of the measures taken against the aforementioned diseases.
