Social and religious structure of harput in the 19th century

Harput was an important region for both Ottoman and Seljuk Empire period. In the region of Harput that many civilizations, states wanted to own from time to time, recesssion and keeping in the background from the Ottoman Empire was a mention. The main reason of this recession was that the innovations coming with the Tanzimat reform of Era could not be applied in the Harput because of various reasons. At the beginning of Ottoman period, Harput linked to Diyarbakır is overshadowed by the region ,but still contributed to economy of Ottoman Empire. Harput, common field for muslims and non-muslims in terms of education and culture, came up with the increasing of missionary activities and this activities contributed positively to non-muslim people. Developments of Ottoman period have critical importance on the demographic structure and cultural recession of the region. Harput took place in the morally important region that many sufi people lived. Today, graves and tombs of these spiritual people still embellish the plains and hills of the Harput.
