The investigation of the articles related to Turkish education in the journals published between 1923 and 1928

The aim of the research is to investigate the articles related to Turkish education in the journals, which was published between 1923 and 1928. In the research, the arguments about language and alphabet were investigated in addition to Turkish education and teaching, which occurred from the foundation of the Republic till 1928 and determination of the applications that were performed in the field. In the research, in which scanning model was used, the data were analysed by means of the method of document analysis. The data, which was collected from 32 journals constituting study material, were classified according to themes. The articles related to Turkish-literature education were categorized according to the titles of first reading-writing, reading, writing, grammar, teaching writing, teaching methods and techniques, Turkish-literature curriculums, schoolbooks, teaching Turkish to foreigners. Applications that were performed related to basic language skills and the methods and techniques that were used were assessed in the context of historical development of Turkish teaching. In the periodicals analysed, the adoption of roman letters, simplification of language, arguments about the spelling were also analysed; the effects of these arguments on Turkish education at the time were determined. The articles determined and analysed shows that the writings which dealt with the issues of Turkish education, language and spelling had important roles in informing the society, drawing attention to various issues, guiding the educators, enlightening the people, preparing the people for revolutions. Especially, education journals functioned as a guiding handbook for the teachers thanks to the informative and guiding articles of the important educators and pedagogues at the time. It was determined that the problems related to Turkish education expected to be solved in term of the language, spelling and alphabet of the time indicated and that the issues dealt with on behalf of Turkish education keep up to date.
