Investigation of 1923-1938 Atatürk Period Turkish theater in terms of political theater theory and ideological elements

This study, named "An Analysis of the 1923-1938 Atatürk Period Turkish Theater in terms of Political Theater Theory and Ideological Elements", deals with the 1923-1938 Atatürk Period Turkish Theater from the perspective of German director Erwin Piscator's "Political Theater Theory". In the study, the theater of the Early Republican Period was examined in terms of five elements of political theater theory. In the first part of the study, information was given about the "Theatre Concept and Its Power to Mobilize Communities". In this part, traditional theater, Tanzimat Period theater, II. Abdülhamit Period theater and Constitutional Period theater are briefly mentioned. In the second part, the appearance of the Republican ideology (between 1923-1938) in different literary genres, the function of the theater of the early Republican Period and the important institutions affecting the theater of the Atatürk Period are explained. The third part, which is the main examination part of our study, is named as "Political and Ideological Reflections of the Republican Ideology on the Turkish Theater between 1923-1938". The texts handled within the framework of Piscator's theory of political theater; It has been examined in five different aspects: "Theatre's Propaganda and Educational Function", "The Theatre's Ideological Function", "The Theatre's Actuality and Announcement Function", "The Theatre's Aesthetic Function" and "The Theatre's Documentary Function". Our aim in the study is to reveal the propaganda and educational, ideological, actuality and statement, aesthetic and documentary functions of the plays of the period within the framework of political theater theory.
