Abstract (EN)

The economic developments experienced in 1923-1960 era which starts by the foundation of Turkish Republic and ends with fall of the rule of Democrat Party have been intrrogated through the perspective based on liberal and statist polies as the basis of this study. A wide range literature review has been conducted in order to clarify the economic developments in the mentioned period. Within this framework, a more balanced appraisal has been tried to achieve by way of reflecting economic and political developments in international conjuncture which most affects the economy of Turkey. Accompanied by the study of political and ecoonomic developments of the states which most affects the economy of Turkish Republic in general sense, the Ottoman heritage which Turkish republic inherited has been interrogated in order to shed light into the conditions in which the early economic policies have been evolved. Within the theoretical framework of the study, the liaison between politics and economics has been inqured. Within the context, the progress and flow of those policies along with the process from late Ottoman era to Republican era have been interrogated as long as the definitions of liberalism and etatism.
