Housing pattern in the physical environment models the urban as it creates the most common and biggest part of it. Henceforth evaluating the development of the housing pattern provides an advance in planning, decision and design processes about the physical environment. It?s a real fact that there is a strong relationship between the transformation of housing pattern and the development plan decisions. This thesis subjects on the transformation of housing pattern and architecture occurred as a result of development plans and legal regulations in Izmir from the foundation of the republic to nowadays. With this consideration, the thesis studies the occurrence process of housing typologies which occurred as a result of interaction between the planning and housing in Izmir. In this study, the process from 1923 to nowadays is studied in main three terms regarding to the social evolution and transformations of housing pattern in Izmir. The interaction between planning decisions and housing is to be studied in consideration with the whole housing sites of the urban; as a result of this, the thesis studies the whole city generally; however, it studies the city center in more details. In this thesis, for every term, the social conditions and legal regulations in Turkey is studied to provide a general consideration. By researching the planning studies in Izmir, their affects on housing pattern and architecture are developed. Results of this research are summarized in tables.
