Epidemic diseases in İzmir between 1929-1945 and search for solutions

Epidemic diseases are phenomena that have profoundly affected human history and led to political and social life. It has been a natural situation to see epidemics intensively, especially with the transition to established order. The journey of the existence of diseases in Turkey started with trade, migration, wars and political developments. As a transit route, Anatolia was also home to diseases. Turkey has faced diseases throughout its history and has struggled with diseases in times of political uphuaval. The loss of lives inflicted by Ottoman State from epidemics was greater than those of the wars. İzmir, one of the most popular cities of the Ottoman Empire as a commercial city, has had to struggle with diseases throughout its history. Tuberculosis, malaria, plague, cholera, typhus, syphilis, disease chichewa are among the most common diseases in İzmir. This study focused on epidemics in İzmir between 1929-1945 and their search for solutions to these epidemics. Socio-economic status of İzmir, reflections of the World Economic Depression in 1929 on İzmir economy, the effects of economic problems on outbreak and spread of epidemics have been studied.
