Analysis of the middle age issues in the 4th class's history and social knowledge text books as visual between 1938 and 2018

Textbooks are one of the essential materials used in the teaching and learning process. In this regard, the preparation of textbooks in a qualified manner is important in terms of getting higher quality of education and training. Visual elements are the main elements to be considered when preparing textbooks. The visuals used in textbooks have an important function in learning the subject and making the information they have learned permanent in their minds. In this context, It should be put for the design of the visuals used in textbooks, types, contends, changes according to the years. In this context, it is aimed to reveal how Middle Age visuals are represented in the 4th grade History and Social Studies textbooks between 1938 and 2018 and what kind of changes are experienced in these visuals. In the research, the method of screening from scientific research methods was used. Document analysis was used for data collection and descriptive analysis was used in data analysis. n the study, the distribution of the visuals belonging to the Middle Ages in the primary school 4th grade History and Social Studies textbook were given as a table according to the years, the type and amount were found. Then, to evaluate the images in the textbook, image evaluation criteria were created. Descriptive analysis of the visuals was made according to these criteria. As a result of the research; Between the years 1938-2018 in the Primary School 4th grade History and Social Studies textbooks used in the Middle Ages, the amount of visuals used in the years experienced significant changes in terms of the types of images used, and some of the visuals were found to be incomplete and incomplete in terms of design.
