The perception of Çanakkale War in 1940's

The Triumph of Çanakkale is the name of the struggle that is important for both Turkish and World History. Turkish Resistance, which started with the Gallipoli Campaign during the World War I, accomplished what thought to be impossible and attained the universal triumph. Large numbers of people from various countries came to combat in the Battle of Çanakkale. Accordingly, the Battle of Çanakkale is acknowledged throughout the Glode, thus on March 18 th and on April 25th each year, remembrance ceremonies are held to commemorate the martyrs and the memories. Through these ceremonies, society masters the sense of homeland, love of nation, unity and solidarity with the help of awareness of history, correspondingly they protect the values of the past. Besides, the communities which practice the light of history into the future survive longer. In the extent of this thesis, the focus in on the elaboration of how the Commemoration Ceremonies of Battle of Çanakkale emerged and got strengthened in 1940s, and ceremonies across the country and also attendance of the people. In this thesis, it is aimed to display the Perception of Çanakkale in 1940s, by analyzing not only Turkish Press but also other journals. In this context, it is sought to review the quality of Commemoration Ceremonies of Gallipoli Martyrs, also known as Celebration of the Triumph of Çanakkale, through the instrument of the press of that time.
