The spatial changes and transformations of apartment houses from 1950s to nowadays in karşiyaka

House is one of the architectural building type, which reflects social, economic and political properties besides cultural values of the period and the place that was built in. The change and transformation in achitecture were transferred to the future by lots of thesis and researches done about ?house? concept in Turkey and İzmir. This thesis aims to analyze this change and transformation by focusing on apartment houses in Karşıyaka, which is one of the biggest and most ancient place in İzmir, during the period from 1950s to nowadays.It is almost impossible to analyze and investigate all houses in Karşıyaka due to limited man power and the time. Therefore, a place where the changes in housing architecture can be clearly seen in Karşıyaka was chosen and the detailed research was done on that place. The work area consists of two regions, which have different social, economic and culturel conditions with variant landing properties.The research done on these two work areas was executed on two phases. The first one concentrates on ?urban scale?, which analyzes the plot and building block of houses. The second one is ?architectural scale?, which analyzes the organization of interior space . Furthermore, it is also analyzed the relation between urban scale and architectural scale and how they affect each other significantly.As a conclusion, after having the results and data on the architectural change and transformation in Karşıyaka, during approximately 50 years of period is clearly documented and shown with the help related charts, schemas and evaluations.
