Intervention to universities of 1960 Coup Deta and discharging of 147 Academicians

In this study, it was examined who 147 academicians that were discharged in accordance with the law no.114 that was enacted by Committee of National Unity constituted by post 27 May 1960 coup, reasons for this removal, emerging developments at this period and reaction of public opinion to these developments.Universities are amenable to political events in Turkey also in the world throughout history. Any political powers have aimed to patronise universities and interfere them directly or indirectly. It has been tried to put forth relations between universities and politics by analysing academic autonomy as well as the political developments of the period at the conseptual framework of the research depending on mentioned reasons.It was reached the information by means of scanning corresponding documents by being used historical research method in this research. It has been analysed that political structure of Turkey, the emerging developments post 1960 coup, history of universities, discharging movements in accordance with the law no.114, and who these discharged academicians were. In addition to these; Milliyet, Vatan, Tercüman, Cumhuriyet newspapers? archieves were scanned since issue date of the law of 114 and it has been tried to reach information related to 147 academicians by being taken necessary permissions from Istanbul Technical University, Ankara University, İstanbul University.It has also been researched discharging from universities for good of 147 academicians in accordance with the law no.114 without being based upon tangible evidence and being given right of defence and in this context, relations between universities and politics have been a subject for this research.
