Özet (EN)

This thesis examines the influence of the rising political and social movements of the late 1960s on psychedelic graphic design. Movements such as anti–Vietnam War protests, the Civil Rights Movement, feminism, LGBTQ+ rights advocacy, environmentalism, and student uprisings not only reshaped political discourse but also radically transformed artistic and cultural modes of production. Within this context, psychedelic music posters and album covers emerged as powerful visual tools that reflected the ideological tensions, individual quests for consciousness, and collective demands for transformation of the era. The study conducts both semantic and syntactic analyses of these visual materials. Semantic analysis focuses on recurring motifs such as cosmic consciousness, peace and nature imagery, and identity-based protest symbols; syntactic analysis explores elements including color usage, typography, optical illusions, and compositional strategies. The research draws primarily on the works of leading designers such as Wes Wilson, Victor Moscoso, and Rick Griffin. This research demonstrates that psychedelic design functioned not merely as an aesthetic style, but as an ideological medium deeply embedded in the sociopolitical atmosphere of its time. In this historical moment, graphic design evolved into a mode of expression that articulated protest, belonging, and the pursuit of freedom. As such, the thesis contributes an interdisciplinary perspective to the fields of graphic design history and cultural studies.
