Abstract (EN)

The house, which has met both the concrete shelter needs and the abstract needs of people since ancient times, is indispensable for people to feel belonging to the world they live in, from a psychological point of view. The house, which also has ontological layers, is the place where the subject positions his existence according to his changing mood. Since the house has a very important place in people's daily life, it has been made visible in the field of art, sometimes with real and sometimes metaphoric meanings. It became the metaphor of privacy and personal space in 17th century Dutch painting, where depictions of domestic paintings were popular in compositions of everyday life. With the changing perception of art after 1960, the house ceased to be a backdrop and a representation of everyday life and began to be used as a metaphor in the main theme of the works. Among its metaphorical uses, concepts such as identity, memory, belonging, public and private space and existence have taken place. The aim of this study is to go beyond the use of the house as a background in art and to examine how the concept of home has become a discursive place in the field of Contemporary Art and in which contexts it is handled and to make a chronological analysis within the framework of the social / intellectual layers that affect the formation process. The house, which serves as a "place" in the construction of both personal and collective memory, helps to define the reality of the past and present. In the form and content analysis of the house, which is mostly the herald of feelings such as peace, happiness, warmth and trust, and the artwork made after 1960, it was seen that the artists associated the house with the negative pronoun "I" rather than the positive aspect and connotations.
