Abstract (EN)

The study examines ?the development of typography? and ?typography andobjects of art? with the help of art movements and artists before and after 1960. Withthis aim in mind, typography was defined and its historical development was discussed.Artists that address the concept of typography in the art of post 1960 were investigatedin detail. Designs created with typographical arrangements which have an importantplace in the modern art were examined in terms of their effects on modern art and life.The developmental process of typography which has transcended the traditional conceptand has transformed into a modern art product was investigated through the objectscreated by modern artists with their unique approaches.4 main sub problems related to the process of transformation of typography inart in post 1960 period were defined in Section One. Following the problem statementand sub problems, the purpose, rationale and limitations of the study were provided.Later, some of the concepts that will guide the study such as graphic design, graphics,orthography, typography and photomontage were defined.Section Two provides the definition and general rules of typography which isthe orderly storing of concepts related to letters and visual communication andquestions the place of typography in modern art movements. Section Three presents themethod, model, universe, sampling and data collection.Section Four aims to address the transformation process of typography though tohave obtained a new approach in the post 1960 period through the investigation of theperiod and the artists. Relationships between the works of post 1960 artists withtypographical tendencies and individual work created during the thesis period areexplained with the help of the products.Last section, Section Five, provides the results and suggestions. The resultssection provides some inferences that support the views that typographical tendency thatgained a new meaning in modern art with the help of advancing technology isfunctional and that it is transforming into objects of art all on its own.Keywords: Typography, Design, Poster, Modern Text Styles, Modern Art Movements,Concept, 1960 Post-Art.
