Educational policies of the governments between 1980?2009 and their reflections on social sciences books elementary schools

With this study, governments policies and the changes in Sosyal Bilgiler books linked to these policies past Republic period between 1980?2009 have been discussed and evaluated. Sosyal Bilgiler, education and the governments policies in the mentioned period have been related and presented in the work. In following chapters amendments made in primary school curriculum and course books are explained.Amendments, seen as ideological by the society caused concern from time to time. How Sosyal Bilgiler is tought and with what kind of arrangements it takes part in education is especially important in terms of a societies past, national and moral values and cultural structure.In the new century all kinds of developments in human history have direct effect on education. Great wars of 20th century effected humankind deeply and caused polarisation in the world. Wars and occurences transform societies in the course of history. For that reason, social knowladge and history lessons and their books were often used by parties in power as efficient means of leaving permanent traces on generations.Consequently, this study is an attempt to describe the reflection of government parties policies in Sosyal Bilgiler course books used in primary schools between 1980?2009.Subject literature has been scanned and decisions taken following the governments policies, course times in parallel with the curriculum, topics incloded-excluded in books, governments resolutions on how to write course books, with which institutions and individuals are cooperated between 1980?2009 have been explained. The main reason for scanning is focused on how policies reflect in course books. Tebliğler Dergileri publishing the resolutions of M.E.
