Searching trueness in painting art between 1980-2020

The history of painting is also the history of the search for reality. Where reality is sought, it takes shape according to the social, cultural and philosophical structure of the time and finds its meaning in pictorial representations. The 20th century is a period in which the approaches that emphasize the objectivity, immutability and independence of a perceiving mind, which are attributed to the concepts of truth and reality, began to break. The 21st century, on the other hand, has been a period in which these approaches have completely changed and a search for a new reality has been experienced. The artists of this period tried to create a new reality with the object they chose or the material they used, instead of the traditional understanding of representation, in their new approaches in seeking the truth. As an alternative to painting approaches that have sought reality in imitations of external images for centuries; In the 1980s-2020s, it is seen that reality is handled in very different ways. In this thesis; Where and how reality is sought within the specified time period has been researched and it has been determined that the artists of the period consider reality as a higher reality with Photo-Realistic, Neo-Expressionist, Neo-Realistic and Virtual Realist applications.
