Abstract (EN)

The sufficient intake off vitamin D during a women pregnancy is very important to prevent potential health problems and insure the health of both mother and baby troughout the pregnancy. The most recent research focused on the importance of functions which do not have a known connection with pregnancy, the placenta and vitamin D. This work of research, was planned and implemented with the purpose of determining the probable correlation between the development of depression and the condition of women who take vitamin D supplements. Their food intake, their eating habits and their attitude towards food were taken into account. Research was conducted on 150 pregnant women aged between 20-49 admitted to Ankara Ataturk Training and Research Hospital the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department between December 2018 and January 2019. A questionnaire consisted of personal information and data gathered from each of the participants to determine the affect on their food intake, depressive mood and physical dietary changes. Serum vitamin D levels were analyzed in Ankara Atatürk Training and Research Hospital Biochemistry Laboratory. In the clinic, general characteristics, food consumption and nutritional status of pregnant women who underwent physical examination were evaluated and biochemical analyzes were performed. The average age of participants in the study was found to be 28.58 ± 5.94 years. 75 of the individuals in the study used vitamin D and the remaining 75 did not used. The median weight gain in the first three months was found to be 3.00 (IQR= 4) and 4 (IQR = 2), respectively. On the basis of the use of vitamin D, the weight values obtained in the first three months showed a statistically significant difference. Serum vitamin D values of the individuals demonstrated statistically significant differences before and during pregnancy. The mean Beck Depression score was found to be 9.00 (IQR= 6) and 33.00 (IQR = 13), respectively. Relative scores were found to be statistically significant (p <0.001). As a result of the research, although evidence from vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency is associated with depression, especially from epidemiological studies, this evidence is not yet sufficiently supported by the results from clinical trials. Further studies are needed to investigate this situation in detail. Keywords: Nutritional status, vitamin D, pregnancy, depression, eating habits.
