The education instruction activities in Bursa at the beginning of the 20th century

The purpose of our thesis called `The Education Instruction Activities in Bursa at the beginning of the 20th Century? is to ascertain the place of Bursa during the process of modernization in the area of Education in the 19th century in Ottoman Empire and to give statistical information about this issue. Our work is restricted with the beginning of the 20th century. The main sources of our work are The Annuals of Hüdavendigar Province, the Annuals of the Ministry of Education and the Annuals of the Government. The information from the Annuals are tried to be assisted with the copyright literature. In Bursa at the beginning of the 20th century (may change according to years), there are 1 Education Administration Office of the Province, Agency Offices adherent to the Center in the counties of Mudanya, Mihaliç, Adranos, Kirmasti, Gemlik and Pazarköy, 687 primary schools ( İbtîdâi ) including 654 primary schools in the old procedure and 33 primary schools in the new procedure, 9 Secondary Schools ( Rüşdiye ) in the counties and subdistricts adherent to the center, 1 Girls Secondary School, 1 Civilian High School ( Mülkî İdâdî ), 1 Military High School, 1 Teacher High School ( Dârülmuallimîn ), 33 Medressehs, 1 Industry School, 1 Agriculture School, 1 Silk-Making Training School ( Harîr Dârüttalîmi), 1 Silk-Making Education School ( Harîr Dârüttahsîli), 1 Hadika-i Irfan and 3 High Schools, 36 Secondary Schools and 151 Primary Schools belonging to non-Muslim people.
