Abstract (EN)
Multiculturalism is a popular concept that gets more and more important each passing day. In the world we live in, there are new advancements and changes every day. Due to these advancements and changes new concepts are born. Among these new concepts, perhaps the most important one is multiculturalism which means "çokkültürlülük" in our language. Main purpose of this research is that classical guitarists are not aware of the subtext and adopt these pieces with a wrong and sentimental mentality. Among the 20th century art and thought trends it is an undeniable fact that important composers of that time, Roland Dyens, Heitor Villa Lobos, Agustin Barrios Mangore, Manuel Maria Ponce and Leo Brouwer have diversified the approach to composition. Our times' classical guitar repertoire has been shaped by the material of these composers. For this purpose, first the concept of multiculturalism and then the political perspective have been investigated. Life stories of the composers above, the environment they were part of and the pieces they integrated into their own music from other cultures were investigated through the lens of multiculturalism. Multiculturalism concepts' dominant rolein the 20th century classical guitar pieces has been thoroughly investigated. Due to the great importance of African originated Brazilian rhythms and the transfer of those rhythms through cultures, ethnographic methods have been used in several places in the thesis. At the end of this research it was detected that rhythms of the composers from three continents, structural scheme of these pieces and their language preferences were created due to transfer between different cultures. The education they got abroad was especially explanatory for the musical language they used for their harmony. Other than this point, they were influenced by the travels they did abroad. It can be concluded that these composers put importance on the multiculturalism concept as they were influenced by the travels they did abroad and projected the cultures they admired from their perspective.
