Exami̇nati̇on of the 20th century tradi̇ti̇onal women's dresses of Mardi̇n regi̇on

Traditional clothes, which are one of the important elements of material culture, are one of the important sources connecting the past and thepresent. While clothes that form the aesthetic memory of a society in a cultural sense resist time both physically and aesthetically, since it is not protected, it tends to disappear due to its nature. Traditional women's dresses of the Mardin region have started to disappear over time since the necessary precautions were not taken to protect them. In order to establish the connection of local dresses witht he past and the future, the dresses were examined under nine tittles by determining the technical and aesthetic features such as pattern, form, color. In this study, after brief information about the definition of clothing and its historical development in the introduction section, in the second section, the theoretical framework; in the third section, the method; in the fourth section, women's dresses worn in Mardin were grouped under two tittles. In the fifth section; women's dresses of Mardin were examined in terms of color, material and ornamental features. In the sixth section; traditional women's dresses worn in Mardin were tried to be illuminated with the observation slips obtained as well as the theoretical knowledge. In this research, a total of 33 traditional women's dresses in Mardin province which consists of 27 fistan, 2 wedding dresses, 1 engagement dress, 1 dressing gown, and 2 zıbun were examined.
