A review on composed poems of Odysseas Elytis and Nikos Gatsos in 20th century Greek literature

Abstract (EN)

Odysseas Elytis and Nikos Gatsos, who were the most notable representatives of the most productive period of Modern Greek Literature which is called 'The Generation of 1930', have written many poems being influenced by Surrealism movement. These poems were set to music by successful musicians of Greece and gained great success. In this study, primarily, the historical and cultural events in Greece have been discussed in order to make the environment more intelligible wherein the composed poems were written. After discussing the developments of this generation in literature and the poems which were set to music in general frame, information about poets' lives and works were expounded chronologically. Focusing on the main subject of this study -composed poems-, the translations of 38 poems of both poets are given, and if the translations made by different translators are mentioned in the footnotes.
