Retrospective assesment of adult congenital heart surgery patients between 2000-2010 years at Akdeniz University Hospital

In this study, patients who had congenital heart surgery at Akdeniz University Cardiovascular Surgery department between 1st Jan 2000 and 31st Dec 2010, were evaluated. Patients who had coronary artery bypass grafting operation and under age 18 were excluded. Preoperative, perioperative and postoperative datas of the patients had been retrospectively recorded by assesing patient files, operation anestetic forms, perfusionist files, surgical notes and Medihasta patient programme. Study group?s 60.5 percentage were female and mean age was 38.9. Mean operation time was 197.98±23 minutes, mean cardiopulmonary bypass time was 83,24±93.23 minutes and mean aortic cross-clamping time was 48,37±38.83 minutes. Mean RACHS-1 score value of the patients with atrial septal defect (PASD) was 1.03 and 1.77 patient with other congenital heart diseases (POCD). There was istatistically significantly difference between two values (p<0.005). POCD had longer hospital stay and intensive care unit stay. The difference between two values weren?t istatistically significantly different (p>0.005). POCD had longer operation time, cardiopulmonary bypass time and aortic cross-clamping time than PASD. There was istatistically significantly difference between two values (p<0.005). Patients who had RACHS-1 score value 2, had longer hospital stay than patient who had value 1 (p>0.005). Patients who had RACHS-1 score value 2 had longer operation time, cardiopulmonary bypass time and aortic cross-clamping time than patient who had value 1. Hospital stay was longer with patients who passed away later. Passing away patients had nearly triple time longer operation time, cardiopulmonary bypass time and aortic cross-clamping time. Assesment of relation between enfections and hospital stay, ICU stay, cardiopulmonary by-pass time and aortic cross-clamping time showed that, patients who had enfections had longer hospital stay and ICU stay. Longing in ICU stay, was significantly related with enfections. Patients who had enfections had longer operation time, cardiopulmonary by-pass time and aortic cross-clamping time than patients without enfections. Finally, in this retrospective study, the results we investigated about congenital heart surgery datas were similar with literature. But, to evaluate the treatment effects and complications of congenital heart surgeries; to preserve records sistematically and to asses more patients are needed.
