CHP as an opposition party in the 2000s

In this study, the opposition style of the CHP as the opposition party in period between 2002 and 2015 that showed transformation in political discourse and policies was researched, and the events considered important in the agenda of the country were examined. The thesis is composed of three chapters. In the first chapter, politics, political power, political opposition, and political parties are examined conceptually and historically. In the second chapter, the activities, policies, transformations, and the style of opposition to the party in power of the Republican People's Party (CHP), which became an opposition party after the 1950 elections, were examined. In the third chapter, the opposition of the party was reviewed within the framework of certain events affecting the country's agenda during Deniz Baykal and Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's leadership period of between 2002 and 2015. In the 2000s, the CHP changed the party bylaws with the party caucuses within the party, and the discourse changed with the change of leader. All these changes have enabled the CHP to take part in the political scene with the slogan "New CHP." CHP has always held a significant position in Turkey's political scene. Since the change of leader in 2010, although the party has changed its rhetoric and policies as an opposition party and debilitated the party in power from time to time, it remained weak as the main opposition. The main reason for this weakness has been the occasion of being trapped between the requirements of the founding ideology and the demands of the new order.
