Abstract (EN)

This BAP-supported thesis project aimed to comprehensively examine the observed diversity of style (biçem) in post-2000 Turkish Contemporary Art. The project investigated this phenomenon specifically through the artistic approaches of young artists, considering the intertwined contexts of globalization, technology, and evolving art education dynamics. By analyzing key factors influencing young artists' style choices, such as individual experiences, market demands, and new media uses, the project successfully filled a significant gap in the existing literature. This endeavor has provided crucial insights into the current state and future trajectory of Turkish painting. A methodology was used in the project that included visual and textual analyses, as well as semi-structured interviews with a curator, a gallery manager, and four young artists. The research was guided by fundamental questions such as the prominent styles in post-2000 Turkish art, the factors influencing young artists' choices, how these preferences shape the future of Turkish painting, and the impact of innovative techniques on the development of style. The data obtained provided a profound understanding of the artists' creative processes and transformative expressions through art historical, sociological, and psychological lenses. The main findings revealed that young artists encountered significant factors when developing original styles. The final data indicates that this original thesis project offers a new perspective on the problem of style in post-2000 Turkish painting and promises to make significant contributions to the development of art education curricula, art market transparency, and the elevation of aesthetic perception.
