Abstract (EN)

When we examine the process of the body politics and the siege of the body throughout the human history, we observe that the forms of capital determined by the circumstances of each era, political powers, religious institutions and the discourses generated by the dominant ideologies, all have a say over the body. This study aims to understand the conditions under which the body is reproduced in the historical process and at present as well as to reveal the forms of representation of the ideal body in the Turkish cinema. Within this context, in the light of the institutional and conceptual framework identified in the first and the second section, the analyses of the movies titled I'm Afraid Mother (2004), Happines (2007), Body (2011), Sibel (2018) and Drawers (2015) all of which were shot after the year 2000 in the Turkish cinema have been included. As a result of this study, it is concluded that the adventure of the body which has been shaped and controlled by the different socio-economic and cultural variables will continue and the body studies will hold its ground as the most important subject matter of the social sciences.
