UNESCO's approach to protection of underwater cultural heritage in the context of the 2001 convention and impacts of climate change

In International Law, various protection provisions have been included in various agreements without directly using the concept of underwater cultural heritage by referring to some values accepted as underwater cultural heritage. Although, Underwater Cultural Heritage Concept was used for the first time on an international agreement basis with the Convention on the Protection of Underwater Cultural Heritage dated 2001, which was accepted by UNESCO. Because this Convention is regulated with direct purpose of protection of underwater cultural heritage, firstly, all the regulations on underwater cultural heritage in the process until the adoption of the convention and the regulations affecting the content of this convention going to be examined, and then the regime of protection of underwater cultural heritage adopted by the convention going to be examined. Afterward the framework regarding climate change which is the subject of intensive studies with its current effects and consequences, going to be analyzed and the approach in the United Nations going to be explained. Then, international law activities related with climate changes and underwater cultural heritage going to be analyzed and then as a result, it going to be discussed that the current regime which adopted by UNESCO for the protection of underwater cultural heritage is sufficient in contest of climate change.
