Abstract (EN)

In this study, Turkmen existence, identity, population and culture in Iraq are examined, then historical events that can be considered important for Turkmens between 2003 and 2020 years are covered. Due to the demographic change in Kirkuk, Iraq, the situation of the Turkmens has been researched. Mixed methods design was used for this research. The study group of the quantitative dimension consists of 172 women and 198 men, 370 people. In this research exploratory mixed design was used, one of the mixed researched method designs. Throughout history, Iraq has faced many problems, including political, social, economic and cultural. For this reason, the evaluation of the demographic change in Kirkuk in the recent past and still continuing in terms of Turkmens, one of the local people of the city, is discussed within the scope of this study. While people of three nationalities, Turkmen, Arab and Kurdish, have been living together in Kirkuk for years, the state's policy of Arabization and then Kurdification and the immigration waves caused by the ISID terrorist organization caused the Turkmen, who are the local people of the city, to migrate abroad, while people from other nationalities settled in their place. Within the scope of the study, the attitudes and behaviors of the Turkmen in the face of the difficulties they are exposed to were revealed. The social emotional states of the Turkmens and their position in the city were interpreted within the scope of the research.
